JOB SUMMARY:
•The Power Plant Control Technician is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, reliable operation and maintenance of all power generation systems, including generators, switchgear, and fuel storage facilities. This position provides technical leadership to a team of operators and maintenance personnel, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The incumbent manages all controls, instrumentation and provides expert technical guidance on instrumentation systems to ensure uninterrupted power generation operations.
•Generator equipment is in two classes. One set from Woodward Singapore is 1MW generators and the second is Hawthrone USA for Caterpillar 4MW generators with manufacture provided controls. Integrated collection of real-time operations are displayed on SCADA monitors. Incumbent will be considered Subject Matter Expert for controls and display systems including work with manufacturers for upgrades and problem resolution
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Coordinate with Supervisors on all electrical power generation operations and maintenance activities in compliance with applicable standards and safety regulations.
•Provide technical oversight for the inspection of all instrumentation, controls, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of generators, switchgear, fuel systems, and related equipment.
•Conduct a series of Preventative Maintenance procedures to ensure controls and displays are working within technical standards.
•Lead and mentor power plant personnel, ensuring adherence to established records, programs and reports to ensure full documentation of power plant operations and maintenance and accurate deliverables.
•Monitor system performance, identify operational risks, and implement corrective measures to enhance reliability and efficiency to all controls and instruments including any firmware upgrades.
•Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and environmental standards related to power generation and distribution.
•Coordinate with engineering, logistics, and procurement teams to ensure control drawings are up-to-date and availability of spare parts, tools, and materials including logs of on-island critical spares and MRNs for all components.
•Participate in standby/on-call rotations as required to support continuous operations.
•Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment
BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
•Comprehensive understanding of power generation systems, including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of diesel-driven generators (1,000–4,400 kW).
•Strong knowledge of electrical theory, NEC, NFPA, and OSHA safety standards.
•Proficient in performing technical risk assessments for electrical utility systems and ensuring compliance with construction standards, codes, and policies, reviewing equipment installed for compatibility with existing controls and providing coordination with contractors during control check out and testing.
•Familiarity with the instrumentation and control system operation and maintenance includes programming, troubleshooting on Power Plant equipment instrumentation and controls.
•Working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations related to electrical utilities.
•Ability to interpret and apply technical documents such as blueprints, schematics, work orders, and manuals.
•Effective communication and leadership skills for interacting with technical and non-technical personnel.
•Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and adjusting to changing operational demands.
•Must comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1910, including completion of Electrical Safety Training and CPR certification.
•Must pass an overseas medical screening and maintain good physical health.
•Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate both manual and automatic transmission vehicles
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING
Relevant work-related training and certifications are highly preferred, including but not limited to:
•Journeyman or Master Electrician License
•OSHA 30-Hour Construction & General Industry Safety Certification
•NFPA 70E Certification (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace)
•CPR/First Aid/AED Certification
•Generator Operations and Maintenance Certification
•SCADA System Training
•Arc Flash and Electrical Hazard Analysis Training
•Environmental Compliance Training
EDUCATION:
•A high school diploma or Electromechanical or Electrical Education or Training on Instrumentation
